The most important characteristic which distinguishes the quality of a door knob are the following:

Quality of the Primary material: Most door knobs produced by European manufactures are made from brass. Brass excels as a material due to the combination of hardness for the machining strength of the knob - as well as the ease of producing a very good finishing. Brass door knobs have a high life expectancy in usage but are manufactured in limited designs as its not a material that can be used for elaborate details. Last, Zamak is a combination of materials commonly used for more economical options and is available in various qualities.

Product finishing: After the structure of the primary material, the product is then processed to the next stage which consists of fine finishing and smoothing of any imperfections. The longer the time dedicated for the smoothing of details, the better the final product will be for painting.

The quality of mechanical parts: Each knob goes through a stage of creating threads (spirals), mounting holes, pin entry frames, installation of return springs, fuses, plastic gaskets. The correct execution of the process and the quality of material used, ensures the final functionality of the knob, the noise of the return springs, as well as the life expectancy for daily use. 

The quality of the paint:  The final stage of the process is the paint work. The paint in it self designates the aesthetic and duration of the knob. The quality of the primary materials, the technology used in painting and the amount of time taken at this stage layering the paint to give it the final product a higher life expectancy.
